SUMMARY:Fraser Hollins and The Phoenix
DESCRIPTION:The band plays Fraser’s original music\, which is influenced and informed by his love for many different styles and genres. The group is very dynamic and colourful\, with an emphasis on interplay and communication. \nFraser Hollins: Acoustic and electric basses\nSamuel Blais: Alto and baritone saxophones and clarinet\nCarlos Jiménez: Guitar\nMichel Lambert: Drums \nRaised in Ottawa and now residing in Montreal\, Fraser Hollins has been praised as “one of Canada’s great bassists.” (Don Thompson-Canadian Jazz Multi-Instrumentalist). He has performed around the world and appeared on over 40 recordings with bands featuring national and international artists such as Jeff Johnston\, Christine Jensen\, Rémi Bolduc\, Jan Jarczyk\, Don Thompson\, Ingrid Jensen\, Brad Turner\, Geoffrey Keezer\, Kurt Rosenwinkel\, Ben Monder\, Dave Liebman\, Donny McCaslin\, Jon Cowherd\, Brian Blade\, Danilo Perez\, Jerry Bergonzi\, and Seamus Blake. With the release of “Aerial” in 2010\, his first recording as a leader featuring longtime musical cohorts Joel Miller\, Steve Amirault\, and Karl Jannuska\, Fraser presented his most personal vision of jazz. The 11 evocative compositions on the album offer a compelling journey through a diverse landscape of colourful musical vistas that is “continually captivating” (Peter Hum-Ottawa Citizen). His 2nd recording\, entitled “Treehouse”\, was released in 2019\, and features Joel Miller\, Jon Cowherd. and Brian Blade. The band did a week-long tour of Quebec and Ontario in March\, 2022. \nMore \n Interview with Fraser Hollins by Daniel Coulombe of community radio CJMQ 88.9 FM Sherbrooke and CIDI 99.1 FM in Knowlton. \nhttps://suttonjazz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Fraser-Hollins.mp3
