A staple of the Canadian jazz music scene in the 80\,s & 90\,s performing with artists Sonny Greenwich\, Michel Donato\, Gino Vanelli and The Merlin factor and his own groups\, he veered towards the world of film music in 2002 and has since scored over 100 movies and 200 television episodes.\nJames has performed on over 40 albums\, with 10 under his own name. He has received 6 JUNO nominations for both solo albums and collaborative efforts and a JUNO award for The album “The Merlin Factor” on which he performed and contributed his compositions and arrangements . James won the International Montreal Jazz Festival competition and placed second at the world renowned Great American Jazz Piano Competition in Jacksonville. SUMMARY:LEGION PARK SUTTONFacade Sextet
DESCRIPTION:Margaret Donovan and Matys Colpron met while studying at McGill University. It was there that they explored the rich tradition of jazz while rounding out their respective musical experiences with various ensembles on different Montreal stages. At university\, their cohort proved to be talented. They represent the next generation who dare to create a contemporary identity for the future of Montreal jazz: one that is less conservative\, more creative and more diversified\, and above all\, equally represented. Their desire to join forces quickly became apparent. Margaret Donovan and Matys Colpron formed their sextet to create a medium for presenting their original compositions. The ensemble is made up of talented young Montrealers and Canadians: Sam Baglieri on tenor saxophone\, Charles-Olivier Talbot on trumpet\, August McKinney on piano and Mason Jeffery-Off on double bass. The ensemble’s mission is to be inclusive\, supporting the representation of this new generation of female jazz composers. It also aims to be a place for ongoing collaboration between Quebec and Canadian artists. DESCRIPTION:Curious and bursting with creativity\, multi-instrumentalist Dominique Poirier grew up in Oka\, where he began playing the piano at the age of six\, before turning to guitar lessons. As a teenager\, his passion for blues and jazz led him to pursue guitar studies at the Cégep de Saint-Laurent. He perfected his mastery of the instrument and developed a love of composition. \nHis musical explorations fortify his penchant for live performance. As a composer and performer\, he tours with a variety of jazz and popular music projects. \nHaving always had an affinity with the accordion\, it was in 2018 that he embraced the instrument more seriously. It was love at first sight. The accordion enables him to play melodies\, improvise and accompany simultaneously. He was fascinated by the instrument’s versatility and its presence in many musical styles. Jazz\, classical\, folklore. He is currently studying jazz accordion at Concordia University.
