Workshop: What is swing?

Louis Armstrong reportedly answered: “If you gotta ask, you’ll never know”.
This masterclass will try to answer the question while taking a look at how jazz singers handle swing. Participants will have the opportunity to sing during the masterclass. If you wish to do so, please prepare one of the following songs:

An experienced jazz singer, Madeleine Thériault has performed with some of Canada’s top jazz musicians. For almost thirty years, she taught jazz repertoire, interpretation, and voice technique at Concordia University. She was the founder and director of the McGill Jazz Vocal Ensemble at McGill University.
