Participate

The Festival de Jazz de Sutton has given itself the mandate to contribute to the development of Quebec's next generation of jazz musicians by creating the Concours de la Relève.

Sutton Jazz, in collaboration with the Centre de musique Victor, is proud to present the Concours de la Relève, designed to give young jazz music students the opportunity to showcase their talent and take part in a competition. The competition has two components: one for college students and one for university students. The Centre de musique Victor will give participants gift cards that can be spent in their branches or on their online ordering site.

To participate, you must be :

• a jazz group of 3 to 7 musicians;
• currently enrolled in or graduating from your final year of a music program;
• available to travel to Sutton where the competition is held.

Competition procedure :

• Each group must register in one category: college or university;
• A pre-selection based on the quality of the application file will select a maximum of 6 candidates who will be invited to the auditions. Of those selected, no more than 4 applications will be accepted in each category;
• Competing groups will prepare a concert lasting a maximum of 20 minutes. Performances will be presented before a jury, and the public is invited to attend;
• A jury will select the best performances according to a series of performance criteria;
• The winners in each category will be announced on the same day as the closing show of the Festival de Jazz de Sutton (one day in August or September each year).

Performances are free and open to the public on a "first come, first seated" basis!
