Concours de la relève Jazz Sutton - Centre de musique Victor 2024
As part of its mandate to contribute to developing the next generation of Quebec jazz musicians, the Sutton Jazz Festival has created le Concours de la relève.
In conjunction with le Centre de Musique Victor, a well-known establishment in the Eastern Townships, and the Town of Sutton, we are proud to provide a platform for young student jazz artists to showcase their talent at the 3rd edition of the Sutton Jazz – Centre de musique Victor 2024 Concours de la relève.
We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:
- a jazz ensemble of 3 to 7 musicians;
- currently registered in, or having graduated during the past year from a CEGEP or university music programme.
The competition will take place as follows:
- each group will register in one category, CEGEP or university;
- a pre-selection based on the quality of the application file will be done in order to determine a maximum of 6 groups who will be invited to participate in the competition. No more than 4 candidacies will be retained in each category;
- each competing group will prepare a 20-minute concert which will be presented before the public and jury on Saturday August 31, 2024, at the Salle Alec et Gérard Pelletier in Sutton;
- the winners will be selected by a jury based on a set of performance criteria;
- the winners in each category will be announced the same day at the closing show of the 2024 Sutton Jazz Festival.
Prizes
Le Centre de Musique Victor, our principal partner for this activity, has four music stores in Estrie and Montérégie. They will present the participants with gift certificates that can be used at any one of their branches or on-line.
Gift certificates will be rewarded as follows

The winner in the university category will also have the opportunity to perform (with remuneration) at the 2025 Sutton Jazz Festival.
Registration Form
In order to register a group must:
- Complete and submit the online form before June 7, 2024, 11:59 p.m.;
- Submit a 20-minute demo before June 7, 2024, 11:59 p.m.
- Your demo must consist of 3 pieces of jazz.
- The pieces presented in the demo may be the same ones that will be played at the live performance.
- You may include a link to your demo or send it by wetransfer.com to wetransfer.com à booking@suttonjazz.com.
