LEGION PARK SUTTON
Facade Sextet

Margaret Donovan and Matys Colpron met while studying at McGill University. It was there that they explored the rich tradition of jazz while rounding out their respective musical experiences with various ensembles on different Montreal stages. At university, their cohort proved to be talented. They represent the next generation who dare to create a contemporary identity for the future of Montreal jazz: one that is less conservative, more creative and more diversified, and above all, equally represented. Their desire to join forces quickly became apparent. Margaret Donovan and Matys Colpron formed their sextet to create a medium for presenting their original compositions. The ensemble is made up of talented young Montrealers and Canadians: Sam Baglieri on tenor saxophone, Charles-Olivier Talbot on trumpet, August McKinney on piano and Mason Jeffery-Off on double bass. The ensemble’s mission is to be inclusive, supporting the representation of this new generation of female jazz composers. It also aims to be a place for ongoing collaboration between Quebec and Canadian artists. This diversity is represented musically, with their diverse influences exploring the virtues of cohabitation in improvisation.
