ALAIN BÉDARD – AUGUSTE Quintet – Tribute to Wayne Shorter
At the same time, as director of the Effendi label, Alain Bédard is pursuing a highly interesting career with the Auguste ensemble, which he has been touring on every continent for over 25 years. L’Auguste (in trio, quartet and/or quintet) has given over 400 concerts in Canada and abroad, taking part in major festivals and artistic events on the international jazz scene.
He has performed alongside Quebec musicians Rémi Bolduc, Frank Lozano, Pierre Tanguay, Michel Côté, Samuel Blais, François Bourassa, André Leroux and numerous international musicians, including Donny McCaslin, Stéphane Belmondo, Julien Loureau, Ted Nash, Pascal Shumacher, Etienne Etievenard and Fulvio Albano, to name but a few.
The group has released 6 albums, including the CDs “Auguste” (1997), “Sphère Réflexion” (2006), “Bluesy Lunedi” (2008) nominated for an ADISQ and JUNO award in the Best Album of the Year 2010 category, “Homos Pugnax” (2011) and “Circum continuum” (2016). We’ll soon be hearing music from the 6th album “Exalta calma” (2022) Hi Couleurs Jazz, France. The Shorter 64 project is added to the ensemble’s repertoire as a tribute to one of this century’s greatest jazz geniuses.
